The Princess Bride is a love story and one of the greatest paradies of all time. Post a unique and favorite quote from this film and explain why it is signifigant to the story.
"Give us the gate key" "What gate key?" "Tear his arms off" "OH! This gate key!"
Well I thought his quote was funny. It showed that the giant was powerful. This was a turning point to show the start of the three good guys beginning their triumph. I picked it because it made me laugh and showed how stupid the man with the gate key was. It made a mockery out of him and his duty. Because toward the beginning of the story, this man told the king "I am the only man with the key" so in theory it was ironic.
"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
This quote represents the traits of the character Inigo. It reveals that he is on a journey to kill his father's killer which reveals his bravery. This quote is memorable throughout the film because it is constantly repeated and can be comical and somewhat ironical at parts. I picked this quote because I personally found it humourous and memorable.
This quote is important in showing that Miracle Max is a miracle worker and that how he acts like he can't do it and acts as if he doesn't know how to help Westly but ironically he sends him out with the treatment and it works after saying only in a miracle will it work hence him being Miracle Max
Buttercup: You can die too for all I care. Westley: AS YOU WISH! Buttercup: Oh my sweet Westley what have I done?
Buttercup does not know that Westley is alive and she thinks that he is really someone else. Five years ago Westley would always say "As you wish" as a symbol of love. So when he yells "as you wish" when he falls down the hill Buttercup finally realizes that Westley is really alive and right in front of her.
I really liked how the main characters were fueled by true love and how everyone seemed to have this deep respect for it and knew it was the greatest thing in the world. I hate how people just don't believe in love anymore these days. A lady came to my art class and talked about abusive relationships and she said if the person says they love you early in the relationship it might be an abusive relationship and quite frankly that's bull spit. I've always been a romantic type of guy and falling in love is one of the best parts of life. It might be a little creepy but that feeling when you just look at a stranger and they're just beautiful and you just go "I love you" well at least in your head, its just swell. We need people to believe in true love again, a lot of our society just doesn't care for it any more and its a pretty depressing when people don't believe in love.
"You seem a decent fellow, I'd hate to kill you. You seem a decent fellow, I'd hate yo die." I personally find this quote hilarious because of its tone. In this quote, both Westly and Inigo are about to have a duel, however they are both acting very friendly and chummy towards each other. This quote is ironic because although this is a serious discussion they are both smiling and being very friendly towards one another. I think this quote completly characterizes both Inigo and Westly's personalities, which is that they are both very carefree and comic.
Like Max, my favorite quote is: Inigo - You seem a decent fellow, I'd hate to kill you. Westley - You seem a decent fellow, I'd hate to die. I find this to be my most favorite and most memorable quote because of it's simplicity and it's quickness to it. It's one of those lines that if you don't hear it, you miss it. Also, it somewhat foreshadows the relationship between the two characters. Later on in the movie, Inigo finds himself in need of help to avenge his father and realizes the only way to do it would be with the help of Westley. The placement of this quote is also very funny because the two characters should actually be arguing with each other or having some sort of fight because they are supposed to be enemies when in reality they act as if they had been friends for a long period of time and that the duel that followed was less of a duel and more of a game for each of them.
Short, I know, but how Wesley responds to Vizzini's attempt to conquer Wesley's trick reflects the wittiness and sarcasm that makes the Princess Bride. Wesley's wit is perfectly embodied in this quote, which is personally why I chose it. Vizzini's stupidity is comical, and evenly matched with Wesley's intent, as well as portrayed beautifully through Vizzini's tricked death. . .and he thought he was so smart. Ha.

ReplyDeleteWestley: DEATH FIRST!
This quote shows how brave Westley is. It really reveals his character. Westley is willing to do anything for Buttercup, including dying for her.

Miracle Max and wife..
ReplyDeleteWife-You think it will work?
Max-Not a chance, It would take a miracle
This quote is important in showing that Miracle Max is a miracle worker and that how he acts like he can't do it and acts as if he doesn't know how to help Westly but ironically he sends him out with the treatment and it works after saying only in a miracle will it work hence him being Miracle Max

Buttercup: I will never love again.
ReplyDeletethis shows the love buttercup once had and could never regain again. once love is found, it cannot be lost nor replaced.
